What Makes It Uncommon

Your mind sees softness, water, and a familiar splashy threat. The hand knows better. Award-winning glass artist Dylan Martinez shapes molten glass into hyperrealistic water balloon art that toys with perception and material mastery, freezing a quick summertime thrill in a form meant to be admired for years. Every curve, subtle distortion, knot, and tassel reflects the precision of traditional furnace techniques and the wonder of an object that refuses to be what it seems.

  • Hyperrealistic glass sculpture is modeled after a filled water balloon.
  • Individually hand-sculpted in molten glass to create the tension, volume, and illusion of internal water pressure.
  • Knot and tassel are formed while the glass is still hot, requiring precise timing and control.
  • Each piece is annealed in a kiln, then ground, pre-polished, sandblasted, and acid-etched for its final finish.
  • Subtle distortions are intentionally introduced to enhance the lifelike effect.
  • Choose from Purple, Light Blue, and Cool Breeze.
  • Handmade in Washington.
As with any premium glass art, this piece is designed for display only and should be handled with care. Avoid handling or holding by the tassel, as this connection is quite delicate.

Dylan Martinez

Dylan Martinez creates hyperrealistic glass sculptures that challenge perception and turn ordinary objects into surprise. Raised in Stillwater, Minnesota, and now based in Washington state, he draws inspiration from physical forces in nature, engineering, and material science. Introduced to glassblowing through an elective college course, he apprenticed with established glass artists before earning a Master of Fine Arts and developing his own distinct practice. Working from a purpose-built Pacific Northwest studio, Dylan hand-sculpts each piece using traditional hot glass techniques, balancing precision, tension, and illusion to create works that feel playful yet demonstrate expert mastery of the glassmaking art.

Care

These are delicate glass sculptures and should be handled with great care. Do not lift or carry the piece by the knot and tassel, as this is the most fragile area. Always support the body of the balloon when handling. Avoid placing the sculpture where the tassel may contact nearby objects. For display only. To clean, apply glass cleaner to a lint-free cloth and gently wipe the surface, careful not to push on the tassel.
