Scott Staats melds cremated remains into stunning suncatchers as a colorful, shining tribute to their memory.

  • After sending a teaspoon of your loved one's ashes to Scott's studio in the provided kit, the artist heats glass in a furnace until it reaches a molten state. He then adds a thin layer of the ashes to the material before returning it to the furnace and sculpting it into a suncatcher.
  • Each design boasts a mesmerizing spiraling pattern that reflects and refracts light when lit.
  • Includes ribbon for easy hanging.
  • Measures approximately 5.5" in diameter.
  • Choose from three colors: Galaxy Blue, Sunset, and Island.
  • Cremated remains have special shipping requirements—please see below for information that will help you purchase the best option.

Shipping requirements for sending ashes safely
The U.S. Postal Service has strict requirements for mailing cremated remains (human or pet). As of 2025, all remains must be shipped in a special USPS cremated remains box, sealed with USPS tape. Other boxes or mailers are not permitted and may result in delays or returned shipments. This is a nationwide policy, and the options below will help to make the process simple and stress-free.

  • You will receive a memorial collection kit and complete instructions on how to gather your ashes and send them to Scott’s studio to create your suncatcher. You will not receive a USPS cremated remains box or tape.
  • You will need to order the USPS cremated remains box directly from USPS—it’s free and comes with the USPS tape. Get it here. When you’re ready to send your ashes to Scott’s studio, Uncommon Goods will provide a free prepaid shipping label.
Cremation Memorial Suncatcher With Shipping Box ($240)
  • Uncommon Goods will ship the USPS cremated remains box and tape in the same package as your memorial collection kit. You will not need to order it from USPS. When you’re ready to send your ashes to Scott’s studio, we will also provide a free prepaid shipping label.
  • The additional $15 covers our cost to ship the flat USPS box and tape to you.

Scott Saats was born in Princeton, New Jersey. Although he worked as a helper at a glass studio in high school, he decided to focus on business in college. After a detour managing a car-rental office, Scott rediscovered his passion for glasswork. Scott says his work "brings joy by creating beauty, invoking thoughts and memories, blending colors, and capturing the imagination." In 2022, he fulfilled his dream of owning a studio, where his wife and two young daughters often visit to cheer him on.

This is a made-to-order item that ships directly from the maker. You will receive a pre-paid shipping label and envelope to mail your completed kit to the artist. An expected ship date for your item will be provided after the artist receives your kit. This item typically ships after the artist receives your kit.

Items that are made to order or oversized can't be sent in a Gift Bag. Instead, you can include your Gift Message on the shipment's packing slip.  At this time, this item cannot be shipped to APO/FPO addresses, P.O.
