With this sentiment in mind, Jill Henrietta Davis created her birthstone wishing ball to capture a single wish, accomplishment, or meditation every week for the coming year.

People often ask Jill why the wishes can't come back out, and she explains: "When you blow out the candles on a birthday cake, you don't tell the wish you made, otherwise it won't come true. But more importantly, memories are always more beautiful than photographs, and the same is true of wishes. When you look at the little slips of paper accumulating in your Wishing Ball, I want you to think about the big picture those messages convey. Rereading the notes would be like looking backwards, or trying to step in the same river twice."

  • Each shimmering ball of hand-blown glass comes with 52 tiny slips of paper for you to pause once a week throughout the year and record a message of hope or gratitude.
  • Roll up your wishes, tuck them in the tiny opening near the base, and they become a permanent part of the display.
  • Available in twelve brilliant hues that correspond to each month's birthstone.
  • Handmade in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

“When you relinquish the tools you take for granted ... you have to stretch and find new tools to suit the new situation. Sometimes it's scary, sometimes it's awkward, often it's funny, nearly always it's a great investment.”

While studying fashion at New York's Parsons School of Design, Jill Davis became curious about other art forms, and the first time she saw molten glass, her search was over. "Glass is the most challenging and rewarding material," she explains. "You can't bully it - you are perpetually persuading the glass into shape. Even master glassblowers cannot always get the glass to do what they want. It's this feisty streak that keeps me enchanted." Jill's solar-powered studio is based in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

I love both the beauty and the mystery of the Wishing Balls

The colors are magical and the suggested uses just open up all the possibilities for fun and joy! My granddaughter is turning 17 in March, and luckily aquamarine is her favorite color. Whether she decides to put birthday wishes from friends in the ball or to keep her wishes from each week of this year in the ball or ???, she can create her own gift. Perfect!

Gorgeous orb, part 2

To follow up on what I wrote earlier, I also want everyone to know how well packaged the wishing ball was. It was wrapped so well and there was absolutely no way it could jostled around and be broken. Is it possible to have these made with a larger opening so that you can remove the notes? I wanted to use this for bridal or baby shower wishes? Guests would write notes on the papers and the couple/parents would have a keepsake to read later.

Thank you for your detailed questions. The included strips of paper are 1" W x 3" L, although they do have printing on the back, that state 'Thanks' and 'Wishes'.
